It begins with a simple idea! Walk Around Town is a program for people who like to exercise outdoors. It injects something new and innovative into their exercise routine and it enables them to benefit the American Cancer Society's lifesaving patient programs and services, as well as research and advocacy efforts, right here, in our local community, at the same time.

Participants register with Walk Around Town and select a town in Bergen County that they would like to get to know better. They pledge to walk, bike, jog, or stroll ALL of the streets in their selected town (excluding highways) and they signify an amount to be forwarded IN ITS ENTIRETY to the American Cancer Society at registration. A welcome packet of information and maps is sent to the registrant(s) and all information is also available on this web site.

The fun continues with an exercise program that is satisfying. As you walk, bike, jog, or stroll the town, individually or as part of a group, you will experience a knowledge of the streets and neighborhoods of your community as never before. You will get to know your town north, south, east, and west and will be able to say that you have Walked Around Town as you join others in this innovative exercise program.

The rewards are truly significant. For participants, here is an exercise plan that will keep you motivated. You will enjoy a fresh route each day and will have fun keeping track of the roads you have covered on your town map. You will feel the satisfaction that comes from completing a town and the physical benefits of keeping up with your exercise routine.

The rewards, for others, are especially significant, too. Once you have pledged your commitment to cover your selected town, your tax deductible pledge will be forwarded in its entirety to the American Cancer Society. Walk Around Town is a recognized 501(c)3 Public Charity, separate from the American Cancer Society. Every dollar you pledge is fully deductible under sectoin 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. The organization is registered in New Jersey as Walk Around Town a NJ NONPROFIT CORPORATION, whose purpose is a fundraising exercise program for cancer research.

Most importantly, every dollar you contribute will go toward finding a cure for cancer.
